Zoom Workshop Younger Generation reflection - Zsolt Juriga

 Zoom Workshop

Younger Generation

For the younger generation workshop myself, Mairead and Cillian had a talk with the younger generation of Carrigtwohill about their experiences, opinions and outlooks on living in Carrigtwohill.

As we began our workshop we introduced ourselves and that we are the Perspectives podcast, the guests introduced themselves as well , at the start we had a few audio issues because one of the participants was walking as they were talking to us, because of this it made it harder for us to dissect some of the things our participants had said but we were able to work around it luckily and find  a solution during the meeting. Our first objective was to do an icebreaker, we'd asked our participants what they would say Carrig would be like if it was a person. They had great answers saying that carrig would be a fun and intelligent person which was a great thing to hear from someone from the younger generation that having grown up in Carrigtwohill had been a positive experience for them the rest didn't have much to add but they agreed.

We discussed Carrigtwohill further and what type of place it is and what the younger generation likes and dislikes about living there.

To my surprise we'd asked them if they plan on staying in Carrigtwohill and their response was that it's unlikely, i further questioned them about this to see if I can find a reason why people of the younger generation would want to leave Carrigtwohill , the others seemed to agree they all want to leave eventually but they'd never really forget their roots. They said that while Carrig is a great place to live they just couldn't see themselves living there for the rest of their lives and that maybe they'd return to retire one day but they want to get out and explore the world a bit more as Carrig is a rather small place. I found myself agreeing with this as I'd travelled a lot during my life and I always found that exposing yourself to different environments and cultures can have a great impact on peoples lives.

They seemed to think that they have a great selection of amenities in Carrigtwohill which is good for us to know as that seems it's something the younger generation is satisfied with overall.

We had discussed many things and were now at the last bit after having taken a small intermission. I was now sharing my screen to them where we collaborated on creating a poster together, this was a great experience for both sides as we truly managed to create something that could advertise our podcast and got our point across it seemed they were happy to collaborate with us on this.

Overall we had a great time and I think we learned a lot from the young side of Carrigtwohill and we're very excited to see how it pans out in the long run and how we can bring the younger and older generation together.
